Savings With GPS Synchronized Clocks
Savings With GPS Synchronized Clocks
Businesses that rely on time precise, accurate timekeeping do not have to worry once GPS synchronized clocks are installed. These clocks are accurate up to a fraction of one nanosecond, and never have to be adjusted. They can save large businesses or institutions hundreds of dollars in labor costs by not requiring manual updates for Daylight Savings Time or after a power outage for up to three days.
GPS synchronized clocks insure that high schools and universities have class schedules that are perfectly coordinated. They mean that doctors know when labor and delivery of infants or time-sensitive treatments are running smoothly. They even determine when worldwide teleconferences are on schedule. This is because they are equipped with reporting systems that let their owners know that they are fully synchronized up to the minute.
Time is of the essence in so many situations. Take health care, for instance. Hospitals rely on accurate clocks to know when to check on patients, especially those who are on precise medication schedules. Lab results are often time sensitive as well. GPS clocks can assist healthcare systems become more productive and less susceptible to liability.
Educational facilities stand to save on operating costs by using GPS synchronized clocks. Education has always been an industry that is financially sensitive. School administrators try, in every way possible, to save their institutions money, especially with the recent budget cuts. GPS synchronized clocks along with school bell systems and other related products can save schools money in a variety of different ways, from low-to-no maintenance, to more precise labor monitoring.
Often, manufacturing companies rely on precise time keeping of the quality that only GPS synchronized clocks can provide. Companies can take advantage of the reduced costs and efficiencies that are created when timekeeping becomes more accurate. The companies that manually manage power, especially, can benefit from great cost savings by utilizing intelligent power management that is synched with GPS synchronized clocks.
These clocks help manufacturers reach their profitability and manufacturing goals through lower costs and higher efficiency.
Government agencies use GPS synchronize clocks to coordinate meetings and activities throughout large systems of buildings. Synchronized clocks can help this effort along and can make running government agencies more efficient and therefore, more cost effective.
Unless someone operates one of the huge corporations that occupy massive office buildings in America's urban environments, it is hard to fathom the many ways in which company dollars seem to fly out the window due to staff arriving late for work. Presentations, meetings and training sessions must adhere to strict schedules in order that everything fall into place. Studies have shown that when someone shows up late to one of these events, it unavoidably causes distractions, repeat discussions and less progress made. This all adds up to monetary losses to the companies. Furthermore, laptops, copiers, computers and fax machines consume huge amounts of money after hours. All of these problems can be assisted or remedied by the utilization of GPS synchronized clocks.

Drowsy Driving: More Felt at End of Daylight Savings Time
Drowsy Driving: More Felt at End of Daylight Savings Time
This Saturday night, people all are going to set their clocks and their watches an hour back. If you have not been informed yet, well, it is time that you were told that Saturday is the end of daylight savings time.
Such an event may not be a big deal to many people, however, the National Road Safety Foundation, or the NRSF, says that the roads and the highways in the United States are going to be quite more dangerous. This is explained by Adele Kristiansson, the director of marketing and legislative affairs for NRSF. Kristiansson shares, "Since night falls an hour earlier, the commute home from work or school will likely be in the dark. Also, the change of waking time coupled with earlier nightfall throws off our internal clock. It can take as long as two weeks for our bodies to adjust." She does even add, "Drowsiness is a condition most drivers fail to recognize, and it can be as dangerous as drinking and driving." The NRSF is a non-profit group that exists so as to help provide programs on driver safety for various groups, institutions, and organizations.
As per her claim that drowsiness can prove to be just as fatal as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, there are really studies done with US motorists being the cases. According to them, there are about sixty per cent of these motorists have admitted to driving while feeling sleepy. And a huge 33% have bravely said that they had experienced falling asleep while driving.
So it is very much important to do know the necessary things about driving and about being a drowsy driver. Sure, everything may not be a big deal if you were only to lose a couple of GMC truck parts if you got caught in an accident. However, if you were to lose your limb or even your life, that would certainly be something to worry about.
Anyhow, the NRSF does say that if you are about to drive and you feel the signs of being drowsy, it is important that you do pull over first to a safe area and take a break first. You can have a much needed cup of coffee or take in some snacks. Or you can also opt to get a quick shut eye so as to get the drowsiness out of your system.

What Everybody Should Know About Preparing Your Kitchen For Daylight Savings Time
What Everybody Should Know About Preparing Your Kitchen For Daylight Savings Time
If you have a love of cooking like I do, you're excited about the days getting longer. Honestly, with the exception of cooking for the holidays, cooking in the winter seems more like a chore to me. However, cooking in the spring and summer is cooking for fun. In fact, I can't wait to start grilling outside! But, before we all explore our love of cooking in the spring and summer, we need to address the art of cooking and prepare the kitchen.
Daylight savings time is the perfect opportunity to review all of the items in your kitchen, especially the herbs and spices. Of course, you have herbs and spices because you hope that they will give you flavor for all the wonderful fresh ingredients coming your way. However, as we will see, that isn't necessarily the case.
So, let's get started.
First, you should review all your spices. Go to your spice rack, chances are there are spices that have been in your cabinet for years! If you can't recollect buying the spice within the last year, the potency of that spice has degenerated, so I would recommend that you throw it away. All of the spices that are left in your cabinet after this review, open them up and take a sniff. Does it still have some pungency or does it smell musty? Again, no point in putting stale spices on fresh ingredients! Get rid of it.
For the spices that are left in your cabinet after this review, place a sticker on each one with the letters: DST. When you return to standard time, you can review the spice and know for certain when it was inspected last.
Some of the spices that are left in your cabinet can be combined into new flavor combinations. And why not? It's YOUR cabinet and your spices. Who said you can't combine them? You do when you cook! Be daring and have fun. you never know, you may just come up with your own secret spice! Once you're done, make a list of the spices that you need to purchase to refill your stock.
What else should you do?
Clean your oven
Remove the crumbs and brillo the racks
Review your plastic, Tupperware and utensils
Review serving wares for cracks and cleanliness
Have knives sharpened or sharpen them yourself
Clean pots and pans with brillo if needed
Clean cookie sheets for better reflection of materials
Clean out freezer of old items
Organize your pantry, throw away Christmas gifts
Beside turning your clock back, daylight savings time is a reminder of the art of cooking. Cooking should be fun, and if you are prepared for the season by turning your kitchen forward too, you will love and enjoy the fresh ingredients that the coming season will bring for your cooking pleasure!

Set Up The Home For Cold Weather On This Daylight Savings Time
Set Up The Home For Cold Weather On This Daylight Savings Time
Daylight savings time is a great time to complete some remarkably quick and easy home maintenance items! If you are an older person then a cold winter can keep you stuck inside for weeks at a time. The cool is coming in and the grass is turning brown. Daylight is in short supply now, so daylight savings time is on its way and most of us are getting an extra hour by setting our clocks back.
Though it may not be much fun, when the leaves begin to fall you'll want to think about how the upcoming snow and ice will affect the inside and outside of your home. When the cold weather hits you won't have a chance to tackle some of these home projects. Senior citizens may want to begin some of these home improvement projects early so there is plenty of time to find a professional if needed. We have been taught for years to replace the batteries in our home smoke detectors during this time, but there are actually a lot of quick things you can do to get your house ready for colder weather.
Install new Batteries: You may want to buy a decent pack of spare batteries and go around your house replacing them as you find them. There are many more battery-powered things in your home now than there use to be. All sorts of digital thermostats, monitors and flashlights operate almost exclusively on AA or AAA batteries now.
Check your heating system: Some heating repair companies offer sales or special deals for elderly citizens and regular customers. Remember: it is less expensive to pay for regular heating maintenance than to take out a new home refinancing loan to pay for a new furnace! The only thing worse than being caught without AC in the summertime is being stuck without heat in the wintertime. Be sure to inspect your heat system at least once each year. If you aren't comfortable checking your furnace yourself, do not be afraid to call in a professional.
Stock up on some needed winter supplies: There are some special supplies you only use around your home during the winter months. You might want to buy firewood, heating fuel or propane before a prolonged cold snap hits. Elderly people may also want to stock up on canned food, dry goods and even medicine ahead of time just in case a large winter storm hits. It is always a smart idea to buy winter tools like snow shovels and ice melt earlier in the season because supplies are often gone once the snow comes.
Most of these home projects only take a few minutes, but can save you thousands of dollars in possible repairs and could even save your life! Most of these things are practical steps you can take to prepare your home for winter. It is best to prepare your home for the cold and ice before the really bad weather hits. Senior citizens living in their own house will especially want to be vigilant about preparing for the colder months.

If You Don't Prepare For Daylight Savings Time Now, You'll Hate Yourself Later
If You Don't Prepare For Daylight Savings Time Now, You'll Hate Yourself Later
Daylight savings time is the practice of advancing clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less. Although it was originally designed to reduce electric usage, there's controversy over whether it's actually had this effect. Now, daylight savings is primarily used a marker for the beginning of a season and to take care of certain items like changing your clock and changing your smoke detector batteries. You may be saying, "But, Chef Todd! This is interesting and we love the info, but what in the world does it have to do with the art of cooking?"
I'm so glad you asked!
Whether we change the clocks or not, the days get longer naturally. This is a signal for the plants to start getting ready to provide fruits vegetables, herbs and spices for us in the coming growing season. Now we're cooking!
If you have a love of cooking, there are some cooking tasks that you should associate with daylight savings time. The most cooking fun of the year is cooking outdoors. Some might say it's an art form.
As with any artist, some preparation is in order for you to prepare for the season of fun, outdoor cooking. First, to be able to practice the art of cooking outdoors, you will need clean cooking tools.
Let's start outside:
Inspect and clean the BBQ grill, smoker, and/or your outdoor cookers.
Look for spiders and dirt.
Check your gas tank for leaks (put some soapy water on a pastry brush and brush the liquid mixture onto the top of the tank, turn on the pressure…you don't want to see bubbles)
Cooking is a lot more fun when you have enough gas, charcoal or wood chips for your outdoor cooking. It's certainly no fun to run out of gas in the middle of cooking a steak.
As soon as you feel the last frost has come, spend some time preparing your herbs indoors and outdoors. Window box herbs will give you a small, quick start, but your outdoor garden should be tilled and fertilized for the coming season. If you start putting some love into your garden now, you'll be ready for some fun, tasty cooking early in the season.
But your outdoor herbs aren't the only things that need attention for you to have some fun cooking. In my next post, we'll talk about how the art of cooking outdoors also requires some inside preparation.

Long Beach Auto Repair Center Keeps Drivers Safe After Daylight Savings Time
Long Beach Auto Repair Center Keeps Drivers Safe After Daylight Savings Time
November 7 is the end of daylight savings time this year. Your Long Beach auto repair center advises you to take extra precaution during this time of year to keep you, your family, other drivers, and pedestrians safe.
According to studies by the National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF), car accidents increase when daylight savings ends. This is due to having more darkness during peak driving times, combined with a lack of concentration and vehicles that aren't safe for night driving.
You can ensure that your car is ready for the extended hours of night driving by having your local Long Beach auto repair experts inspect your car's lighting system. This includes headlights (both low and high beams), brake lights, tail lights, parking lights, backup lights, turn signals/emergency flashers, and interior lights. If any of these components aren't working properly, you're putting yourself and other drivers in danger.
Your Long Beach auto repair center recommends the following end of daylight savings safety tips:
Regularly check all lights: Take a few extra minutes once a month to do a quick inspection of your lighting system.
Make sure your headlights are aimed correctly: This is one of the most important aspects of lighting safety. Check your car's service manual or bring your car to the Long Beach auto repair specialists to inspect and properly aim your headlights.
Limit use of high beams: Using your high beams increases the time you have to react to road hazards, so use them wisely and never when you can see the headlights of an oncoming car.
Keep your headlights clean: If your headlights are dirty, you're taking an unnecessary risk when you drive at night. Take a few extra seconds at the gas station to wash your headlights and taillights, especially during wet weather.
Clean or replace your windshield wipers: Don't forget to clean your windshield regularly to eliminate grime that may decrease your vision. If your windshield wipers are worn, your Long Beach auto repair professionals can quickly replace them and get you safely back on the road.
Pay extra attention to pedestrians: According to a report by the American Journal of Public Health, pedestrian fatalities quadruple just after daylight savings time goes into effect. As we all get used to the time-change, beware of pedestrians who may not be paying attention during dusk and peak evening driving hours.
If you haven't had your vehicle's lighting system checked in the last year, now's the perfect time to have it thoroughly inspected by the Long Beach auto repair center. Simple proactive measures such as keeping your headlights clean and properly aimed can help you avoid an accident at night.

Daylight Savings Time Fall 2009 time change
Daylight Savings Time Fall 2009 time change
I hope you don't forget to set your clocks back by 1 hour before you go to bed on Saturday. This weekend 31st Oct/1st Nov is the time change for Fall 2009. For most countries that use DST (Daylight Savings Time) Sunday 25th October 2009 is the day for one extra hour of sleep in the morning. But in the USA and Canada it is one week later so before you go to bed on Saturday night put your clock BACK one hour. Amazingly many people still get confused by the DST adjustment so remember "Spring Forward / Fall Back” and enjoy the extra hour.
Another good idea is to put your clock back one hour if you are going out on the town on Saturday night before you leave.
Daylight savings time (DST), also known as Summer time in British English, is the convention of advancing clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forwards one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backwards in autumn.
Quick Poll **Do You Forget to Put Your Clocks Back Every Year?** VOTE YES or VOTE NO
(Just vote above for your chance to win a free 00 Walmart Gift Card)
Modern DST was first proposed by George Vernon Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist in 1895. Many countries have used it since then. DST was first used in some countries, such as Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom, during World War I as a measure aimed at conserving coal but it was abandoned by many countries after the war, but over the years it has re-emerged within Europe and taken up by many other countries worldwide.
The daylight savings end date in the USA and Canada occurs on the FIRST Sunday of November which is the 1st Nov at at 2AM so if you live on the North American Continent put your clock BACK one hour before you go to bed late on Saturday 31st October to make sure of an extra hour in bed.

Spring Forward:tips For Avoiding Sleep Loss Because Of Daylight Savings Change
Spring Forward:tips For Avoiding Sleep Loss Because Of Daylight Savings Change
Daylight Savings Time or moving our clocks ahead one hour is now upon most Americans. Interrupted sleep caused by primary snoring is really a year-round issue, but Daylight Savings Time really drives home the impact of lost sleep. Michael J. Breus, PhD, a leading sleep specialist certified in clinical sleep disorders and author of Beauty Sleep, shared some easy-to-follow methods for coping with the transition to one less hour of sleep.
"Daylight Savings Time certainly has benefits, but it is not without downsides for those who are already sleep deprived," said Dr. Breus. "Many people are surprised to learn that the highest incidences of traffic accidents occur the Monday following the time shift, because people are too tired to concentrate fully on the task of driving."
According to Dr. Breus, the following tips can help ease the transition to Daylight Savings Time and help combat sleep deprivation that may occur during this time of year:
Alarm Yourself
Most people use alarm clocks to wake up. At least two days prior to the time change, begin setting the bedside alarm clock for a "turn in" time that is between 15 and 30 minutes earlier than you usually go to sleep. In addition, plan to set the "wake up" time 15 minutes earlier to make it easier for your body to adjust to the new schedule.
Enforce a Family Curfew
Children require more sleep than adults and are more sensitive to loss of sleep. To avoid dealing with groggy or irritable children preparing for school that first week, parents may want to consider putting kids to bed 30-45 minutes earlier starting the Friday night before the time change.
Commute Astutely: Avoid the Morning Rush
Because so many traffic accidents happen the first few days following the time change, see if your boss will let you telecommute for the first few hours of the day or arrive later so that you can commute after the morning rush. You'll be better rested so making up the extra hour or two will be easier and safer.
Silence is Golden
It is well known that sleeping next to a snoring bed partner, animal or child can cause people to lose about an hour of sleep each evening. Coupling this sleep loss with that of Daylight Savings Time means even more sleep loss. Consider appropriate alternatives to reducing noise in your bedroom, such as Brez, the anti snoring solution.
Hang Out With Your Pillow
A good night's sleep begins with a good pillow. Replace your pillow once a year. Daylight Savings Time is a good reminder to ensure your pillow is adequate. Try this: hang your existing pillow over your arm. If it hangs there limply like a saddle on either side it's time to replace it because the support is gone.

Daylight Savings in the Year 2010
Daylight Savings in the Year 2010
Washington—With the public success of the additional weeks of daylight savings, congress has decided yet another change for the year 2010. Of those spearheading the decision, few were more outspoken Tuesday than Congressman Law. “By the year 2010,” said Law, “daylight savings will end Sunday, November 7 and begin again Monday, November 8.” When asked why the one day, Congressman Law claimed, “This day is to be used as a reminder to our fellow Americans of the energy crisis currently going on all across the world. It is our intention to raise our country’s awareness, which we feel should carry over into the weeks of increased daylight. We also feel really bad about the gas prices and want to make up for it.” When asked again why the one day, the congressman declined to comment.
This bill was passed by congress in a near unanimous decision on Tuesday. However, the decision did encounter notable opposition. “This bill is disgraceful,” said Congressman Veto. “How much further are we going to abuse nature? First it was eight months of daylight savings and four months without. Now it’s eleven months and thirty days with and one day without. Can someone tell me how this evens out? At the very least, if we want to preserve daylight and further our country’s consciousness, we can do it without the day.”
Few of his fellow politicians shared the sentiment however, as most were optimistic about the decision. In addition to the change, congress has also voted to have the day’s name changed from daylight savings time ends to Benjamin Franklin Day. “We all know that Benjamin Franklin was the first to suggest daylight savings,” said Congressman Law. “And what better way is there to celebrate America and its virtues than by naming the day after him?”
Coming up for congress, the vote over the proposed pay raise for all government officials. “We’re hopeful,” said Law.

What's The Deal With Daylight Savings Time?
What's The Deal With Daylight Savings Time?
When Is Daylight Savings Time 2009?
Did you know that it’s really called “Daylight Saving” and not “Daylight Savings” time? This year, the official Day Light Saving Time is November 1st 2009 at 2:00 AM. So on Halloween night before you go to bed, you should set your clock back 1 hour. Alaska has passed a bill as well to stop following it.
So how long will this period last? After you set your clocks back on November 1st or last thing October 31st, the clocks won’t need an adjustment until March 14th, 2010, when Daylight Saving time begins again on the second Sunday in March.
It’s also a great idea to use this time to also check your smoke detectors. You should always check your detectors at least twice a year, and how convenient, you need to adjust your clocks twice a year! Did you know that working, properly placed smoke detectors DOUBLE a family’s chance of survival?
Should Daylight Savings Time Be Expanded?
Modern daylight savings time was first proposed by a New Zealand entomologist named George Vernon Hudson in 1895. There are many controversial aspects of daylight savings time, which was originally designed to add daylight time to the afternoon and less to the mornings. The practice typically benefits retail outlets, sports or other activities that need daylight after normal working hours. However it doesn’t benefit evening entertainment venues or other evening activities that depend on the sun. On the reverse, some argue that sufferes of night blindness are hurt by the effects of daylight savings time.
Love it or hate it, chances are it’s here to stay. So be ready on November 1st, 2009 to get your extra hour of sleep!

Daylight Saving Time is a technique for getting more beams beyond the day through advancing clocks through 1 hour throughout the summer. For the period of Daylight Saving Time, the sun rises after one hour in the morning, and when populace are generally snoozing anyhow, and sets after one hour in the evening, appearing to expand the day longer.
Note: Between March–April through September–November, it is summer in northern hemisphere, at where several countries may survey DST, while in southern hemisphere it is winter. Throughout the rest of the year the contradictory is factual: it is summer in southern and winter in northern hemisphere.
First of all, Benjamin Franklin suggested the Daylight Saving Time in 1784; however Daylight Saving Time was not in anticipation of World War I, in 1916, when Daylight Saving Time was assumed by a number of counties in Europe that primarily discarded the idea.
And it is complicated to forecast what will occur with the Daylight Saving Time in future. Several countries modify the date due to particular conditions or events. Canada, The United States and some additional countries expanded DST in 2007. And the fresh beginning date is 2nd Sunday in the month of March throughout to primary Sunday in November.
Worldwide daylight saving
Today, approximately 70 countries utilize Daylight Saving Time in at least a portion of the country. Japan, India, and China are the only major industrialized countries that do not observe some form of daylight saving.
When is DST?
Daylight Saving Time or Summer Time starts and ends.
United States
The U.S. begins Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. local time on the second Sunday in March and reverts to Standard Time at 2:00 a.m. local time on the first Sunday in November. DST is not observed in Hawaii or Arizona, with the exception of the Navajo Nation, which does observe DST, even in Arizona. In 2009, DST starts on March 8 and ends on November 1. In 2010, DST starts on March 14 and ends on November 7.
European Union
The EU begins Summer Time at 1:00 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time on the last Sunday in March and reverts to Standard Time at 1:00 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday in October. All time zones change at the same moment. While European nations took advantage of a seasonal time change for decades, in 1996 the EU standardized the "summertime period. In 2009, DST starts on March 29 and ends on October 25. In 2010, DST starts on March 28 and ends on October 31.
Controversy
Even in countries where Daylight Saving Time and Summer Time have been observed for many years, many people intensely dislike the semiannual time shifting.
Oppositions that surrounds DST and Summer Time:
Sleep disturbances
Many people complain about the inconvenience of adjusting to a new sleep schedule when the time changes. While this is a nuisance to most, for those with sleep disorders, the transition can be very difficult.
Lost productivity
There is evidence that work productivity decreases as people adjust to the time change.
Severity of auto accidents
There is evidence that the severity of auto accidents increases as people adjust to the time change.
Inconvenience
People often complain about the inconvenience of changing their clocks twice a year.
Disrupted mornings
People who wake at dawn, or whose schedules are otherwise tied to sunrise, complain about the adjustment. Canadian poultry producer Marty Notenbomer notes, "The chickens do not adapt to the changed clock until several weeks have gone by, so the first week of April and the last week of October are very frustrating for us.
Religious practices
In Israel, ultra-Orthodox Sephardic Jews have campaigned against Summer Time because they recite Slikhot penitential prayers in the early morning hours during the Jewish month of Elul.

Anybody else sleep right through the shift to Daylight Savings Time this year? Anybody else find out they were supposed to have "sprung forward" only after showing up an hour late for Sunday brunch? (Sorry Grandma!)
If it seems like Daylight Savings Time came earlier this year than normal, that's because it did. In 2007, a new law went into effect in the United States, moving up the switch to an extra hour of evening daylight by three weeks in the spring and delaying the switch back to standard time by another three weeks in the fall. The result: spring came early this year. Or at least it felt that way.
Most people like Daylight Savings Time. It was originally designed to give us all an extra hour of leisure after work but before sundown; later, advocates of Daylight Savings have made credible claims that the time-shift also saves energy, reduces crime, and even lowers the number of car accidents. So you'd think that adding to Daylight Savings Time would be a political slam-dunk. But if the politics of Daylight Savings were works of Shakespeare, they'd be less like the love-in of Sonnet 18—"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"—than the vicious Montague vs. Capulet blood feud of Romeo and Juliet.
When Daylight Savings Time first went into effect back during World War I, angry farmers bitterly protested against the shift away from standard time, which they called "God's Time." More recently, PTA groups have fought against Daylight Savings, fearing that their children's safety would be endangered by having to walk to school in the morning dark. (Would it kill us just to start school later in the day?) And airlines say that Daylight Savings costs them millions by messing up gate times for trans-Atlantic flights. In Washington, lobbyists for this "coalition of the early dusk" battle against pro-sunlight forces including the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Convenience Stores. (Seriously, we are not making this up.) While the daylighters currently have the upper hand, the anti-Daylight Savings lobbyists are surely just waiting for the day they can swoop in, like the raven of Edgar Allen Poe, to turn back our clocks while croaking, "Nevermore." And so the battle continues.
It's hard to imagine what might happen if we Americans ever took up the proposal, currently being considered in Britain, to go on permanent Daylight Savings Time in the winter and on Double Daylight Savings Time in the summer. Such a system would allow glorious summertime sunsets to stretch toward midnight… but that surely wouldn't make the forces of darkness happy.
