Just got a sweet review from the Library Journal on the fondant DVD with Robin. This is what they said: Robin Hassett, co-owner of and baker at the Dessert Tray in Portland, OR, shares in this lively and informative DVD her tips and tricks for working with fondant, that mix of sugar, water, and flavoring that is the foundation of many candies and icings. After discussing the basic tools and techniques, Hassett provides a recipe for fondant and then goes through the step-by-step process of decorating two different birthday cakes. Excellent production values and a well-designed menu allow viewers to navigate the DVD with ease. Hassett proves to be an engaging and cheery guide to the world of fondant, making this program the perfect choice for beginning cooks who want to start turning out their own colorful cakes. A useful addition to any public library cooking collection.—John Charles, Scottsdale PL, AZ. more info here: cookingupastory.com Video Rating: 4 / 5
@MrCakenbake You can buy it several craft stores, such as Michael's, or cake decorating supply stores. There are several recipes on the internet and some shared in this thread below. Lastly, Robin shares her recipe and how to make it on the DVD.
Does anyone know wht foundont tastes like and I probably just spelt tht wrong oh well like is like chewy or melts in yur mouth or what? Lol I've nvr had it
Sadly fondant looks great, and tastes horrible. The most beautiful cake I've ever had was made by my sister's friend, and it was also the worst tasting cake I've ever eaten. It's like eating playdough and cardboard at the same time. Not very tasty at all.
@suzesteele Yes. The first is an undercoat which she chilled in the fridge for a bit, then applied a 2nd coat before putting in back into the cooler for awhile. Then she carefully laid the rolled out fondant over the cake.
Hi, Did Robin put two coats of buttercream on the cake before the fondant? I noticed that she filled the cake, went around the edges with the filling and then after cooling it put another coat on.
