Don't you think the video's title is just a little misleading? Nuclear Power makes me think of cooling towers, containment domes, and steam turbines. Nuclear Power and Nuclear Firepower are two totally different things. The only way to get an explosion like this from a nuclear power plant would be to drop a nuke on it. If you're anti-nuclear weapons, fine. I can't say I'm exactly FOR them. However, if this is supposed to be anti-nuclear power, you need to get your shit straight.

@sajabz2007: No, not necessarily. MAD has held it together for 60 years; about the future, who can tell? Don't understand the last sentence; the weapons have non-destructive uses? No, not much; using them to excavate and frac oil wells just angers the radioactivity gods. If you mean nuke power, it is being pursued; that's what the vid is about.

@connor356: Star Wars notwithstanding, we don't have lasres for that. Patriot missiles or the like are our defensive weapons.

@homicidalsoldier2006: No, not quite. Robert Oppenheimer supported use of these weapons up until about 1950, and then decided that they were getting out of hand, and became an anti-weapons person. There were anti-weapons scientists working on the project; the chief one was probably Leo Szilard, a very close friend of Albert Einstein. He was trying to get the weapons controlled by an international committee, which Truman declined.

@genevievechic20: No. You cannot get a nuclear explosion from a nuclear power plant. The explosion at Chernobyl was a steam explosion that released a huge amount of radioactivity. The worst sort of accident from nuclear power is a reactor meltdown (which also happened at Chernobyl, and partially at TMI).

@skateboy159: No. Ignoring fallout for the moment, the Tsar Bomba (largest nuke ever tested, 50MT) had a 50% kill radius of perhaps 20 miles, mostly by blast effects. No one has proposed deploying such large weapons. Fallout can kill, I suppose, out to hundreds of miles, perhaps essentially worldwide, under the right conditions.
